Phoneme Segmentation Fluency Interventions

Using a variety of activities to practice segmenting phonemes will help your students become successful readers and writers.  Once they can hear the sounds in words, they begin to understand how words are made.  

These sound strips are great to have around for quick practice.  Students quickly segment the sounds in each picture.  Just print, cut and hook together with a metal ring.

Keeping a binder full of picture sheets that you can pull out and use is a really convenient way to reassess students quickly.

Students can sort pictures into the correct column according to the sounds they hear.  You can switch out the cards to refresh the activity with little prep time.

Students can use cubes or legos to build the sounds that they hear in the words.  This is great for hands on learners and for students who need a visual.

Physical and verbal activities are a great way to practice segmenting.  Giving students physical actions to go along with segmenting will give them a "hook" when it comes to transferring the skill into real life 

Students slide the picture pieces across as they segment the word.  This is great for hands on and visual learners.

You can grab up these intervention printables and the activity cards in this packet!  These interventions are designed to be use 1-on-1 or in small groups.  They are great for Rt I, literacy rotations, and reading groups.  I cut, laminate, and keep the activities in their own plastic envelope and keep them grouped according to skill (PSF, NWF, LNF, etc.). Single sheet interventions can be kept in a binder! They are great to have on hand for last minute activities, volunteer activities and time fillers.
